Shakertown of Pleasant Hill

I learned how to dry stone wall at Shakertown of Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. There is nothing like a sunrise at Shakertown. Nothing like it. All the trees of the field clap their hands there. Every bird sounds like it’s singing in praise to the Lord.

I had a few sections of wall that were all my own to work on, including my final test section. I was so nervous waking up the day of. I wasn’t sure I could finish in time. And the foundations still confused me a bit.

I did great, and I finished with top marks in my whole class, at least that’s what Neil, my teacher, said. He was surprised at how far I came since when I first started the class, I had never picked up a hammer, and I was even scared to use one at all.
